Barrie in French: Le Petit Oiseau blanc
« on: September 28, 2006, 01:43:48 PM »
Today is the official publication date of a French translation of The Little White Bird.  As far as is known this is the first ever French translation of this book, and the person who deserves credit is my good friend Céline-Albin Faivre, a fellow devotee of Barrie whose depth of knowledge of him and his works seems to know no bounds.  Céline recently created a J.M. Barrie website - http://www.sirjmbarrie.com/ - which she continues to develop.  Do take a look if you haven't done so already.

The level of interest in Barrie by present day French-speaking people remains to be seen - I believe only Peter Pan had previously been published in French - but in the meantime I think Céline deserves our praise and admiration.  She is determined to raise awareness of JMB in France.  If anyone feels like giving their praise and support personally, please visit her website and click on 'Forum' (where she is 'Mary A.') and/or her blog 'les roses de decembre' (where she is 'Holly Golightly').  Posts and comments in English are just as welcome as those in French.

Le Petit Oiseau blanc is available online from the publisher, Terre de Brume: http://www.terredebrume.com/librairie-en-ligne/page,shop.product_details/flypage,shop.flypage/product_id,367/jos_change_template,tdb_tmpl_ecossaise/

and Amazon, France: http://www.amazon.fr/petit-oiseau-blanc-James-Matthew-Barrie/dp/284362309X/ref=sr_11_1/171-2650016-5190667?ie=UTF8

Thanks so much for the link and information! I have been visiting Céline's website for some time now and I love it, despite my complicated and sometimes strained relationship with the French language (to top it all off, I'll be graduating with a degree in French next May). What a brave soul she must be to take on translating The Little White Bird...
