Was Michael also cremated?

I just finished watching the miniseries and thought it far outshined Finding Neverland. Depp was miscast as he was in the remake of Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. However, his co-actor in both films, Freddie Highmore, was the salvation of both films. Freddie was also wonderful in August Rush. iIf you haven't seen it, do.

The boy that played young George in the miniseries was wonderfully cast.
I only wish there would have been more on Michael from his appearance at age 4 at the premier of Peter Pan and years later at 13 or 14. Filling that gap would have shed more light, I believe, on the developing relationship between Barrie and the boy.

One very poignant moment stands out (although, of course, there were many)was during a conversation between George and Barrie about he (Barrie) writing Michael every day at Eton and that it may be "unhealthy" and Barrie's reply that Michael writes to him every day, too. hmmm?

I think it was sad and unfortunate for future scholars and laymen that Peter probably destroyed Michael's letters and other effects in 1952 during a very stressful period in his life and most likely suffering from almost clinical depression.
As I posted elsewhere, there is a parallel with what Peter did. Robert Todd Lincoln (who was noted for his periods of depression) destroyed almost all the correspondence between Abraham Lincon and Mary (Todd) Lincoln as well as letters written to Robert at prep school and Harvard from Willie Lincoln. I just had a book published (I am a US writer) on the friendship and life of my great-grandfather, a sergeant in the Pennsylvania Volunteers at age 19 who was stationed at the White House in 1861-62 and was befriended by Lincoln's son Willie who tragically died at age 11 on February 20, 1862 of typhoid/small pox/pneumonia. Willie, like Michael, was already a precocious poet, speech writer and letter writer who was most like his father and had great potential...he aspired to be a preacher or teacher. Lincoln never got over the death of his beloved son.

I also posted another question that no one has replied to but I am sure Andrew has some ideas: the origin of Michael's fear of water??

Andrew; Thank you for the clarification about Michael's letters and affects.
Very sad that Peter burned them. Coincidentally, very like what Robert Todd Lincoln did for much of the correspondence between Mary Todd  and Abraham Lincoln and the letters Willie Lincoln wrote to him (Robert) from Springfield and Washington (I just published a book on Willie Lincoln and my great-grandfather, a sgt. in the Pennsylvania Volunteers who was stationed at the White House 1861-62 and was befriended by Willie, who, although younger than Michael when he died, also had great potential).
The book is entitled Mystic Chords of Memory by Donald Motier.

No one has replied to my other query about the origin of Michael's fear of water. Any ideas?

PS: I live in the US and hope to visit Michael's grave someday.
Also, please accept my belated sympathies for the death of your son.

Andrew: The color plates are related to other stories in the collection. There are three black & white (pen & ink?) illustrations within the body of "Nei and Tintinnabulum" but they are not credited to an artist. I think Cynthia had this reprinted from the proof of Barrie's original 12 copy edition since Cynthia's was published the same year (1925) by Scribner's.

Are Peter, Jack and Nico buried with the rest of the Llewelyn Davies family in Hampstead or elsewhere with their wives?

Davies Family / Michael's fear of water

Andrew, what do you think is the origin of Michael's (i.e. Peter Pan's) fear of water? Theory: Could Michael have fallen in a lake or stream over his head while swimming or fishing at a young age and had to be rescued? I shared his fear of water since age six when an uncle of mine decided I could learn to swim by tossing me in six feet of water at a public pool. I almost drowned. It took me almost to age 16 to overcome the fear of deep water and I still am not a good swimmer.

I completely agree that Michael accidentally drowned... in his panic at wadeing out too far, calling Buxton for help, and pulling both of them down.
On a couple occasions when I was a young teen, I waded out in a pool up to my neck and began to panic. There are documented cases where when in a panic (similar to the superhuman strength of a mentally deranged person in a rage) Michael may have clung so hard and desperately to Buxton that he overcame Buxton's superior size and strength.

Nicholas: Thank you so much for checking the archives of the Eton College Chronicle for any recognizable poems by Michael and for replying to my query about his letters. It is indeed sad and tragic that Peter evidently destroyed Michael's letters as being "too much" as scholars and laymen could have learned much from them.

JMBarrie / Neil and Tintinnabulum

I recently obtained a First American Edition of Cynthia Asquith's The Flying Carpet (Scribner's 1925)which includes Barrie's short story Neil and Tintinnabulum. It is, of course, really about Michael at various ages. The book has wonderful color plates and  b & w illustrations. I highly recommend it as only 12 copies of the original story were printed and they are almost impossible to find.

On p. 278 of James Barrie & The Lost Boys is stated, "Michael was...co-editor of the Eton College Chronicle writing letters and POEMS galore..."

Question: Are any of these poems still extant, possibly in the archives of the Chronicle at Eton?

On page 291 of J. M. Barrie & The Lost Boys is the quote: "Cynthia [Asquith]  had arranged a 'great cave' of Michael's letters, starting with his first attempt, written as a child of five."
Question: Do these letters still exist or were they destroyed as "too much"
by Peter Davies in 1952?

Boy Castaways / Boy Castaways

Around 1979 I was on the staff of a library and was fascinated by the story of Barrie and the lost boys after reading the first edition of Mr. Birkin's book. I requested a copy of the Boy Castaways on microfilm from the Beinicke Library and received it. The photos were very beautiful. Unfortunately, my copy was stolen some years ago, but at least I got to enjoy it.
