Did JMB and Oscar Wilde ever meet?

Quite!

Your responses are always clear and interesting Andrew. What I don’t understand is Barrie’s knowledge and understanding of homosexuality. I know it was a different time but surely Barrie must have read articles in the newspapers about the recent Cleveland Street scandal as well as Oscar Wilde’s notorious trial. He attended many social gatherings and parties as well as coming into contact with many actors and actresses. Surely he must have been aware of such goings on. Or maybe it was a more innocent age and Barrie was blinkered or simply was uninterested in such goings on. Still strange though!

Thank you for your detailed reply Andrew. There’s just one issue I have with Barrie not knowing the ‘ins and outs’ of sexual relationships. Didn’t he arrange for an well known actress to have sex with George before he departed for the Front in WWI. This would suggest he knew what was what!

Reading some of Barrie’s letters do you think this explains his easy going attitude towards the ‘relationship’ between Rupert Buxton and Michael? Perhaps Barrie, having possible ‘gay’ tendencies, understood a possible ‘gay’ relationship between Michael and Rupert? Just a thought!

Davies Family / Michael’s death
« on: September 15, 2020, 10:42:27 PM »
Does anybody know the time of Michael’s death at Sandford on 19th May 1921? I think it must have been mid afternoon but I’m not 100% sure. Was he staying at Peckwater Quad at this time or on High Street?

Does anybody know if the plaque is still on display at the Savoy Grill. What was their usual table?

Hello Brutus. Yes, I have seen it and it is excellent. I thought that something that focused more on the boys would be interesting.

Why hasn’t a film been made that focuses on the Davies boys and their relationship with Barrie. Such an interesting story. I know there have been films such as Finding Neverland but one that covers the period from Sylvia’s death to Michael’s death would be intriguing.

JMBarrie / Barrie’s box at the Duke of York’s
« on: March 06, 2020, 10:55:26 PM »
Does anybody know the box that Barrie always used at the Duke of York’s Theatre? I read recently that he always used the same box but the box number may have changed. If I wanted to book a seat in the box for a performance which box would this be?

I notice that Jack’s children both died in their forties. Did they die from lung related issues as many of the Llewelyn Davies family did? What descendants still survive today?

Did Barrie keep his promise about the car? After reading these letters I was surprised that Jack’s attitude to his ‘guardy’ wasn’t as negative as I had believed!

So Michael left his entire savings to Jack? That’s odd! What about Nico and Peter? I thought he was very close to all of his brothers. Or was it simply because Jack was the eldest at the time of his death.

Davies Family / Re: Location of George’s death

Thanks Brutus. Is the exact location of the bank known? What amazes me is why George’s commanding officer didn’t warn his men about the possibility of snipers being in the vicinity.
