Poets and Artists That Michael Admired?
« on: August 11, 2021, 02:20:15 PM »
Just wondering if anybody knows any poets and artists that Michael looked up to?

Thanks to Andrew’s book and this forum, I know that Michael favored the poets Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Matthew Arnold. But are there others?

But I haven’t found any names of artists that Michael admired.

Looked at Michael’s Querist’s Album entries on the database, and saw at age 11, his most admired poet was Robert Louis Stevenson. He must have gotten his love of Stevenson from Barrie since Barrie used to write to Stevenson!

I just wrote a post mentioning this under The Davies at Eton, but I want to mention here that Michael recited the poem “Amaturus” by William Johnson Cory while at Eton, so I can assume Michael liked him too.
