Barrie Writing About Michael at Eton
« on: August 13, 2021, 04:11:09 AM »
An excerpt of a letter to Elizabeth Lucas (wife of E.V. Lucas) from “Letters of J.M. Barrie” by Viola Meynell.

20 February 1918
“Audrey would be amused with the subject Michael had to write a poem about in the Eton Chronicle—not had to but greedily pounced on it. Three house-masters, including his own, were summoned by an officious special constable to appear at Slough under the Defense of the Realm Act for not pulling down their blinds. Delight of the boys! Opportunity for M.L.D.!”

A letter from Barrie to Miss Nan Herbert, Nan Ino Cooper, later 10th Baroness Lucas. From “Letters of J.M. Barrie”:

14 December 1912

My most real news is that Michael went to his school party today in ‘Etons’—first performance therin and was secretly much excited. His white shirt has filled the house (I am writing from there) since early morn, and in short nothing else is talked of in society.
