Letters from Barrie to Gwen du Maurier
« on: December 05, 2011, 01:01:41 PM »
My mother was adopted by Gwen du Maurier in 1919. I was particularly interested to read the correspondence to her from J M Barrie but came unstuck because of his handwriting. Has anyone deciphered these letters?

I see that Yale University Library hold many of the Llewellyn Davies families papers and have a folder (83) in Box 2 containing letters sent by J M Barrie to Gwen between 1910 and 1920. Can anyone tell me if these are the same letters shown on this site or if they are different?

Hi Keith

As far as I know, the letters on this site's database are the same as the originals held at the Beinecke Library at Yale, scanned by Andrew Birkin after he received them from Nico Llewelyn Davies and before they were sold at auction to Yale.

Andrew himself might be able to decipher them, as he quotes passages from the letters in his book of The Lost Boys. Are there any particular letters that you find difficult, that perhaps we can help you with?
