JMBarrie / Potted Pantomime by JMB
« on: August 02, 2016, 06:29:07 PM »
I have a copy of a panto that JMB wrote for the children at Stanway House that I thought might interest this forum (it is only 4 pages long but is full of notes and annotations) also a couple of photographs. My brain appears to have eloped, either permanently or temporarily, elsewhere (I shall chastise it severely when it returns!) and I can't seem to work out how to attach the attachments. If someone would kindly explain to me re- attaching attachments I shall be forever in their inestimable (if there is such a word which I doubt) debt.

Davies Family / My book 'I Believe in Peter Pan'.
« on: July 14, 2016, 08:31:19 AM »
Hi,
I thought that I would mention that my book, 'I Believe in Peter Pan' is now available in Kindle and Paperback on all Amazon sites. It is a fantasy about the Llewellyn Davies brothers and JMB and is set at Stanway House. Half of the royalties are donated to GOSH and the 'Meningitis Now' charity.
I have published some extracts from Nico's letters to me and also two photographs that GOSH very kindly sent to me. One of the letters is particularly interesting as Nico is writing about Michael's death only a few months before his own death.
I have listed the web address of this site at the back of the book.
With Best Regards
PJ Cormack

Davies Family / Did Michael ever visit Stanway House?
« on: May 05, 2016, 06:58:04 PM »
Hi,
I know it's extremely unlikely but I wondered whether Michael ever visited Stanway House - or am I correct in thinking that JMB only went there after Michael's sad death?

Peter Pan / An hour of Herod at Peter Pan premier
« on: April 14, 2016, 09:54:17 AM »
I remember reading somewhere in Andrew's brilliant book that one of the critics at the Premier was heard to state that after watching Peter Pan he was desperate for an hour of Herod (presumably to kill off all the children!!! ) and that JMB, quite naturally was not too pleased about it.
I can't find the quote now so does anyone know the exact words that were spoken and who said it, please?
Thanks

General topic / Sir George Frampton's studio with Peter Pan modelling
« on: April 13, 2016, 07:27:33 PM »
Hi,
I came across this most interesting article about Sir George Frampton with a view of his studio and his initial modelling for the Peter Pan statue.
I don't know if anyone has posted this before and apologies if they have.
It's at http://www.victorianweb.org/sculpture/frampton/home.html

General topic / James Shaw
« on: April 11, 2016, 05:26:36 PM »
I read that Frampton, the sculptor of the Peter Pan statue, used a model named James Shaw and I wondered if any photographs of this boy still exist. The head of the statue is not unlike Michael LL Davies and, having been a sculptor myself, I wondered whether Frampton had used a kind of stylised composite of the two. Also it seems strange to me that if JMB paid for the commission that he didn't insist on the photos of Michael being used. :)

Davies Family / Photographs and some thoughts
« on: April 10, 2016, 06:09:30 PM »
When I look at the photos of the five boys it strikes me how few images there are from their middle to upper teens. There are some of Michael, George and Nico but hardly any of Jack and Peter. Jack I can understand as he appears to have grown away from JMB during this period but Peter I don't comprehend.
I don't suppose we shall ever know the answers but were these photos lost or did JMB either get bored or not have the time to pursue his hobby of photography as the years went by? After all he did have so much on his plate.
Also I wonder who took the Peter Pan photos of Michael and JMB as obviously JMB couldn't have (I don't think they had self-timers back then) and the camera equipment and exposure seem to have been quite complicated .
Another thought came to my mind (while going on interminable and exhausting walks with my dog!!) if Peter was being ribbed/bullied over his 'being' Peter Pan it presumably was at school. Surely George, who was four years his senior, would have stepped in and 'had a word'. I'm sure George would never have stood for his brother being bullied.
Just some thoughts. :)

Davies Family / Did either Jack or Peter visit Stanway House?
« on: April 05, 2016, 06:26:47 PM »
I know that neither George or Michael went with JMB to Stanway House and I know that Nico went there frequently with JMB after Michael's sad death but does anyone know if Peter or Jack ever went there, please?
Thanks

Davies Family / Why did Jack not go to Eton?
« on: April 04, 2016, 07:58:17 AM »
Does anyone know why Jack went into Naval training when the other four boys were sent to Eton and whose decision it was?
It seems quite extraordinary  that he was made 'the odd man out' in this manner.

New to JMBarrie.co.uk? / Michael Asquith
« on: March 06, 2016, 07:45:00 PM »
Hi,
I thought that I read that Michael Asquith had hanged himself off a London Bridge but now I cannot find any trace of this. Does anyone know the truth of this or is it my increasingly ageing brain playing tricks on me?
Thanks
